Purchase Playhouse Presents – Islam: Empire of Faith

The Peace and Social Witness Committee of Purchase Friends Meeting is showing the PBS film “Islam: Empire of Faith” as its third showing of the summer. PBS writes:

…It is the story of the great sweep of Islamic power…during its first 1,000 years, from the birth of the Prophet Muhammad to the peak of the Ottoman Empire…Historical reenactments and a remarkable exposition of Islamic art, artifacts and architecture are combined with interviews of scholars from around the world…Between the fall of Rome and the European voyages of discovery, few events were more significant than the rise of Islam. Within a few centuries, the Islamic empires blossomed, projecting their power from Africa to the East Indies, and from Spain to India…

We are showing this film in an effort to contribute to our knowledge and understanding of the fast pace of events in our world. The film is 3 hrs long, but we are shortening it to a little over 90 minutes. (The entire film is available from the Westchester library system.) A short discussion will follow the showing of the film. Please bring friends, family, young people and neighbors and come for an enjoyable evening together.
