Friday Night at the Movies Purchase Meeting Playhouse

The Peace and Social Witness Committee of Purchase Meeting is pleased to announce the Friends premiere showing of our newly acquired film on the life of the famous black activist and civil rights strategist, Bayard Rustin, Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin.

Friday evening, June 16th
A light supper will be served at 7pm. Film showing 7:30 pm. Free popcorn!

Bayard Rustin was born in 1912 and emerged very early as one of the most gifted and astute leaders of the civil rights movement. His leadership qualities were hampered because he was a gay man living and working in a period in our history when our homophobia was even stronger than our racism. He was a mentor of Martin Luther King Jr. and influenced his thinking, beliefs, and the application of the principles of civil disobedience. The film is a stirring and realistic portrayal of the enormous courage and efforts that the civil rights movement required of mid-century Americans. Please come and bring your Young Adult Friends. Childcare will be provided. The movie is 83 min.

Come join your Friends for an enjoyable Friday night out!
